Im back,
I know its been a while and I really dont have much of an excuse other than I've been attempting to live normally and set up some kind of routine. Which is impossible when Im not really working all that much, so let me try and think of what would be interesting in here....
Mostly ive been scrambling to get all my officialness set for my new job, i have to get all my awards transfered over to British standard and so ive been yelling at the ASA over that one, i think its finally on a role...and then we had to get National Insurance Numbers so that we can officially work...the lovely man at the NIN office told me that even if i die no one will ever get my Insurance number...how nice...
And JAZZZ started last week.
So I am volunteer at the 30th annual Jazz Festival here in Edinburgh which is phenominal, lots of cool people and great music. I worked my first shift last sunday which was awesome met some nice people lots of younger volunteers, and literally all we do is take tickets at the begining and then watch the show and then maybe sell cd's for the artist, which is pretty awesome. So the first concert I saw was a good ole jazz band and they were great!! Then Jess And I accompanied by her friend from back home Carissa went to Three Sisters( sketchy bar) to see a Indy band play...after hearing the amazingness of Jazz the Indy music made my ears bleed they were so bad....but randomly we bumped into our friend Matt at that pub...very odd! BUT the venue was the best part!!! The Jazz is held all over the city but this first one is in the main tent...the Speigaltent which comes every year to George Square and is this massive beer garden/bbq/music tent....and peopple just come and chill and drink and this old old tent is set up like a circus tent and you watch the jazz incredible!
So then i got a frantic email about Monday night, turns out the misprinted the schedule and my tuesday shift was now monday, so since i have no real work yet(my boss told me i was suposed to be training and then last minute last Friday she said...oh no its going ot be next week..lovely) off i went! So i was at the Minto Hotel this time a nice little venue that i think is used for weddings and such. I got there nice and early and sat evesdropping on the blues guy..Samuel James who was playing, he is this really cool guy from Portland of all places with just two sideburns for hair...they go right to the top of his head and down...so random but an absolutly amazing player he played for two hours with a tiny break and rocked!!just him and a guitar it was great! I sold cd's at the end for him and talked to him for a bit and then i headed home, walking both to and from through Grammy & Grandpa's old street...very odd!!
WED!!! BIG DAY!!!
Jess and I walked to Grant management and signed our rental lease...and then we got our little keys and moved into our brand new flat!!!!!!! Its all ours 2 bedrooms(although mine is really a box room which = small) a kitchen a living room a gas fireplace tacky tacky wallpaper. So we spent the night and next day getting settled and going shopping for a few things...Learning how to do important things like....locking the door (not as easy as it sounds) turning on the hot water (again not as easy as it sounds) I managed to figure it all out and now im tackling the issue of why the washing machine only does the spin cycle without any water washing my clothes....
Anyway...
Thursday!!! Matt and i went to see Dark Knight as i think we're the only two people in the world who haven't seen it and it did not disappoint i was frightened I was nervous, I thought Heath ledger was going to come and kill me in my sleep....terrifying and amazing well worth it!!
Friday i decided that having nothing better to do I was going to go and see some Jazz shows!! Plus i hadnt worked out how long it would take me to get to speigaltent from our new place and i had to work saturday! So off i went...no map...glanced at google maps before i left and managed to get lost...this city is a labyrinth ...so i got there late and only saw the last 15 min of the first show, and then hung out with the people I had been meeting all week. Then watched a bit of the second show, then this guy i met volunteering Jack suggested going to another venue...oddly enough the same place we had been for the awful indy show...The Three Sisters, and so i figured id go, turns out this show was Salsa Jazz (whilst the shows i had gone to were traditional and mostly old men) This one started late though and then the stupid band ended early,...so not impressed but wow....SALSA and CHACHA and MAMBO it was great!SO much energy and i got in for free thnaks to my nifty volunteer badge...poor Jack had to work but i enjoyed myslef!!!
Today I worked again and i had stayed up late talking to people from home the time difference is killing me! So i did some reorganizing here at the flat and then went down to the Speigaltent for another swing band which has been playing at the festival FOR EVER...25 years i think of the 30!!! It was sold out and packed! So i basically got to sit and chat with the box office staff Jonny who won the second season of British Survivor...no joke...some guys recognized him and asked if it was him he said yes and i was confused so i asked..
And he was like
J:oh yea i was on Survivor a while back..
Liz: No way thats cool how'd you do?
J: I won...
Liz: Oh...Wow....umm..GOOD FOR YOU!?!!
So awkward, i then spent the next hour talking to him about his 3 year old son and if swimming is the right thing for him...so random!! And then when he left i chatted to this lovely lady who was married to the old drummer of the band playing but he died a few months ago....and then chatted with a guy who was the English version of Uncle Malcolm and apparently used to run the entire festival...So he blethered on for a while but it was great fun to talk to crazy old jazz people. And then i sold Cd's for the band and ended up backstage chatting with Hamish the lead singer giving him the money and cd's etc...So So very random!!
And tomorrow im off to see the oddities of the fringe festival they have their stuff set up on the High Street and the actors are all walking around in costume and its just ridiculous! So im going into town for that and then im going to see one of the jazz shows at the Speigal tent and then i have to work a show at the Jamhouse whereever that is....should figure that out soon!
So thats me for this week...
Happy Long weekend to all and ill be spending mine watching ridiculous people do ridiculous things at the fringe and then jazzzying it up before heading into the pool for training!!!
2 more offers are out there for jobs too which is great i just have to juggle them!!!!
Thats all i can remember for now!!!
