Big Events!
Well
I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures and the last post, im working on getting the other pictures up but as ive mentioned to a few people i have a compulsive picture taking problem and I'm wading through literally hundreds...we took 450 alone on our two day driving trip so they are coming!!
So I have a job YAY!!! Im a swimming teacher...surprise surprise i know but this pays twice as much as home and its only private lessons so its really intense. Its run by all exswimmers who all went to the olympics or commonwealth games so its a little cray and amazing im going to learn alot and im looking forward to it! Plus its only a part time job so i am going to get other jobs in and around these times and im going to volunteer at the festivals and who knows what else!!!
So i had my interview last friday and i was pretty nervous, i read up about the company and got a little intimidated...but i guess my 7 years with the town learning how to teach instructors paid off because apparently i knew just as much as my 12 year swimming vetern/aquatic mechanics degree boss. So thats a plus....she basically hired me on the spot i just have the hastle of getting my awards transfered into something that matches the British standard...which i found out today is going to cost me probably a weeks pay but oh well it must be done.
So the weekend was a little crazy i will of course leave out juicy details but Friday night my new boss invited me to a party at her house....which turned out badly for all involved especially the bottle of Tequila...sigh...So a rather crazy walk home...including the sun rising at 4am(which still freaks me out) And i was back in my flat on the other side of town...i tried to take the night bus(YES THEY HAVE evening bus service called the NIGHT BUS...harry potter fans...anyone...)
So then saturday i spent in bed.....and Jess dragged me out to a party that night...she fed me carrot cake (The cake mascot of the trip) and off we went to a friends work party...that was themed..Beach....no one told Stuart...so no one told us....sooooooo that was a little awkward and then another 4am sun coming up walk home annnnd sunday was a bust, we slept and tried to make it out to enjoy the 20 min of sun in the afternoon....only to be shunned by clouds.
So instead we went for tea and then dinner with our Canadian friend Sarah at an amazing restaurant named Gandhi's (this made me laugh a lot, they had a little history lesson on the menu...it was wrong but it was giggle worthy) And then Jess went off to work and Sarah and I went to see a film festival movie.
The festival ended yesterday and they were showing half price movies calling it "The Best of the Fest" Sadly we missed Sean Connery handing out awards at a much ritzier theater but ah well.
We saw an amazingly disturbing German film called Die Welle (the Wave) I encourage everyone who likes forgein films to see it...especially Lynley...if she reads this.. Anyway its about a highschool teacher who does a little experiment with facism..okay random sentence i know but its really great!
Anyway Today (Monday) I had my first day at work and so i headed out to the office on Hanover street and got the low down on my new job and then was driven out to Corstorphines road..to work at a hotel pool...WHICH WAS RIGHT BESIDE THE ZOO!!!LITERALLY
So i got to observe today and all this week for 3 hours a day some of the other teachers so thats pretty boring but i get paid and i get to see how they run their program and what goes on and all that jazz. So i go back every day this week and then i get a week off which i can handle!
After work i caught the bus home and met Jess at Scots monument and did a little shopping...as i still cant get a library card we bought books and i got a shirt super cheap cause its the summer sales!!!
And then i got a call from KIM!!!! She's in Edinburgh and having a huge Scottish dinner tonight and then i'm going to met up with her tomorrow at 10 and then i go to work and then its CANADA DAY IN EDINBURGH!!! Apparently a pub is having a bit of a celebration so we're going to that!!!
So all in all great day..oh and i had subway for lunch cause i deserved it...take that!!!
And yes Louise....we walked from Gt. Junction which my map tells me connects Leith
Walk and Ferry Road right down at the Firth.....annnd the map also tells me it was 6 squares away....not a fun walk...yikes...we took the bus back much to Jessie's happiness! But it was good next time i go im going to do Wardie school and hang out in the little park i found...that is not on the map of course...In all fairness i forgot the map at home so i only got a glance of where we were going when i very sneakily checked a AtoZ map in the corner store...smooooth
Enjoy Canada Day everyone :D!!!
